About Kate Vannoy

I started my professional career at Audubon Middle School in MPS District 7 as an art teacher. Through my own online learning, I became passionate about alternative pathways to education. I received my doctorate in Instructional Design with a focus in Online Learning. I am currently a Differentiated Supports Specialist at Greenfield High School, leading an innovative program in Restorative Learning & Assessment. I am passionate about personalized learning, restorative practices, media literacy, global perspectives, and differentiating instruction based on students’ strengths. After 27 years, I still cannot believe how satisfying and exciting it is to go to work every day in education.

I realize that the politics of education are complicated and messy. Educators’ jobs are never straightforward or simple because kids are not. Families are not. Our community is not. The world is changing rapidly and so must our schools. It is imperative for Milwaukee Public Schools to succeed. I want to dive into the details of what is happening and help simplify policies and procedures so that the referendum that just passed- and the increase in funding that came with it, is used wisely and well. After many years of being in the machine, I feel uniquely qualified to help steer it.
